MERI, a specialty fabric sandal shop in Ryogoku, has been recreated at Itoya in Ginza. In addition to selling all items, Itoya will be offering exclusive models and a fabric sandal making workshop.
Orange Tokyo Co., Ltd. will be holding a pop-up store for the fabric sandal specialty shop "MERI" at the event space on the 1st floor of Ginza Ito-ya from Friday, June 26th to Thursday, July 9th, 2026.
For this pop-up event, we will be bringing the MERI store, located in Ryogoku—a town where the atmosphere of Edo and the craftsmanship of artisans still thrive—to Ginza, creating a space that will welcome our customers.
MERI is a fabric sandal brand that was founded in 2012 in Ryogoku, Sumida-ku, Tokyo. Each pair of fabric sandals is hand-knitted by skilled artisans and has become a popular choice for modern lifestyles as a new type of room shoe.
A pair of shoes born through the hands of many craftsmen.
MERI's fabric sandals are not completed by a single craftsman.
A person who thinks about design.
A person who braids strings.
The person who weaves sandals with that string.
A person who makes the thongs for sandals.
The person who attaches the thongs to the sandals.
Each pair of shoes is carefully crafted, combining the skills and passion of various artisans.
The unique comfort of MERI shoes is supported by our specially developed knit yarn.
By using laces that are soft to the touch yet have just the right amount of elasticity, these socks gently wrap around your feet while providing firm support.
These cloth sandals, meticulously hand-woven by skilled artisans, combine a soft, plush feel with lightness, creating a unique and unparalleled wearing experience.
The cord used has a smooth texture, is highly absorbent, and dries quickly, and can be washed at home in a laundry net.
Because they are comfortable to wear even in sweaty seasons, they are also gaining popularity as summer slippers.
Itoya exclusive model for sale
This event will also feature the MERI, an Ito-ya exclusive model.
The sole features an olive gray color that is easy to wear regardless of age or gender.
The thongs of the sandals are made from tenugui (Japanese hand towel) fabric featuring a design from Ito-ya's airport store.
This fabric is made from recycled material that didn't make it into the final product due to reasons such as uneven dyeing or pattern placement, resulting in an upcycled model where each pair of shoes has a unique look.
We will be selling a special MERI bag, each with its own unique story, exclusively at Itoya, for a limited time only.
In addition to cloth sandals, they also offer tabi socks and button hooks.
In addition to fabric sandals, MERI's original tabi socks and "button hook" accessories, which offer a new way to enjoy wearing embroidery, will also be available for purchase at the venue.
We will be offering a wide selection of popular items from our Ryogoku flagship store, and as a limited-time pop-up shop, "MERI Ginza Itoya Store," we will bring the atmosphere and craftsmanship of our Ryogoku store directly to Ginza.
A workshop on making fabric sandals will also be held.
On July 4th (Saturday) and 5th (Sunday), we will be holding a workshop where you can experience making fabric sandals.
With the support of an instructor, you will learn the basics of sandal weaving and create your own original fabric sandals.
Even beginners can complete the project in about 3 hours, and all tools and materials are provided, so you can participate empty-handed.
