・Kotao Tomozawa solo exhibition "Fragment"

"Gallery & Bakery Tokyo 8 Minutes" will be holding a new solo exhibition by artist Tomozawa Kotao, "Fragment", from Saturday, November 2, 2024, to mark the opening day of the event.

Tomozawa was born in Bordeaux, France in 1999. He will graduate from the Graduate School of Fine Arts at Tokyo University of the Arts in 2024. Since his time at the Faculty of Fine Arts at Tokyo University of the Arts, he has won the Kume Keiichiro Award and the Ueno Geiyu Award, and has participated in exhibitions and art fairs both in Japan and abroad, making his presence known as one of the leading artists of his generation.

Tomozawa's works combine slime-like substances with organic motifs to create original, realistic figures and dolls. Expressing the details of texture and translucency as well as softness in oil paint, he has attracted attention not only in Japan but also overseas, and is expected to become even more successful in the future.

This exhibition, titled "Fragment," will feature oil paintings that make the most of the height of the exhibition wall and are available for sale. Please come and see the works of Kotao Tomozawa, who will leave a strong impact on viewers.

・Comment from the organizer

"Gallery & Bakery Tokyo 8 minutes" is a place where visitors can encounter artworks in an open space and gain new insights and inspiration. We also hope that it will be a place where artists can take on the challenge of exhibiting in a large space and become a stepping stone for their careers.

There are two main reasons why we selected Tomozawa Kotao to exhibit Kakiotoshi.

The first reason is that I wanted to have many people see my work in an open space. Despite the simple composition of the screen, Tomozawa's oil paintings, which realistically depict the texture and transparency of slime, leave a strong impression on viewers. I have been seeing his work since his first solo exhibition, and he has expanded his scope of activity both domestically and internationally, and continues to fascinate not only collectors but people of all ages and genders.

The second reason is that I was impressed by his sincere attitude towards his work. Mr. Tomozawa will participate in the "Artist in Residence" program organized by our company twice, in 2022 and 2023 (※). During his stay, I had the opportunity to see Mr. Tomozawa working up close, and seeing his extraordinary concentration as he worked on his piece and his continued challenge while enjoying drawing, I strongly felt that I would like him to work on new forms of expression in this space.

We would be delighted if visitors could discover new things by encountering the works of currently active artists in this location, just eight minutes from Tokyo Station.

・Gallery & Bakery Tokyo 8 minutes

"Gallery & Bakery Tokyo 8min" is a space that combines an art gallery with a bakery and cafe, produced by The Chain Museum Co., Ltd., which operates ArtSticker, and Fons Co., Ltd., which operates THE CITY BAKERY. The aim is to be an art space open to the city in the heart of Tokyo, where urban development is progressing with a focus on art and culture.

The venue will be on the first floor of TODA BUILDING, which is scheduled to open in November and where Toda Construction Co., Ltd. will develop various art programs based on the concept of "ART POWER KYOBASHI." The space will be designed by DDAA Co., Ltd., led by architect Daisuke Motoki.

・Bakery and cafe "THE CITY BAKERY Kyobashi Toda Building" is attached to the gallery

THE CITY BAKERY is a bakery that opened in New York's Union Square in 1990. The founder, Maury Rubin, had an unusual career as a TV producer, and the pretzel croissants and rich hot chocolate that were born from his unique ideas quickly became popular.
Since first arriving in Osaka in 2013, it has expanded to Tokyo, Fukuoka, Nagano, Nagoya, Kyoto, and other locations, and is loved by locals in Japan as a "city bakery."

・[Facility] Opened on the 1st floor of TODA BUILDING

"TODA BUILDING", a complex of arts and culture facilities, will have its grand opening next to the Artizon Museum in November 2024. The building is a 28-story, high-rise mixed-use building with three basement floors.
Comprising offices on the higher floors and an arts and culture area on the lower floors, the building will house a museum, hall and conference facilities, gallery complex, creative and exchange lounge, common art space, and art shop and cafe that will function organically to "create opportunities for everyone to easily experience art and culture," "nurture up-and-coming artists," and "create a forum for disseminating information."
In particular, in the entrance lobby, where office workers and general visitors share the same flow of traffic, the "Public Art Program," the core of the art business, can be experienced on a daily basis, providing a "point of contact with creativity" and "new discoveries" that are believed to induce innovation.
