First two-person exhibition in eight years at Wako
Wako Ginza will be holding a two-person exhibition, "Sato Ryo and Arakawa Fumihiko – Playing Between Color Painting and Lacquer," featuring ceramic artist Sato Ryo and lacquer artist Arakawa Fumihiko, at the Seiko House Hall from July 17th (Thurs) to 27th (Sun).

Sato creates porcelain with warm shapes created by hand and on a potter's wheel, and expresses images as scenery using the unique Kutani Gosai color scheme. Arakawa's modern style is characterized by his focus on smooth texture that makes the most of the natural luster of lacquer, as well as decoration with metal wire and a variety of lacquer application methods.
The works of these two artists, born in the same climate of Ishikawa Prefecture, a place famous for its crafts, are different in materials, but they share a similar style of expression, as if they were drawn to each other. In this exhibition, you can see the trajectory of their work, which they have been enjoying while working in the space between overglaze porcelain and lacquer, in the shared expressions of form, sharp lines, and color.
Please come to the venue to see the latest work by these two well-coordinated artists.
