Japan's largest Spanish food festival, the "Paella & Tapas Festival," will be held for three days from June 5th (Fri) to 7th (Sun), 2026, at Hibiya Park (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo). The festival will feature the "National Paella Championship" and the "National Tapas Championship," where the grand prize winners will be decided by visitor votes, as well as the "Valenciana Paella Japan Competition," which will showcase authentic Valencia-style paella preparation using chicken and rabbit meat cooked over a wood fire.
Furthermore, the official selection event for Japan's representative to the "World Paella Day Cup 2026," one of the world's largest international paella competitions, held in Valencia, Spain, will take place at the Paella & Tapas Festival. Witness this historic moment as we choose the Japanese chef who will compete in this competition where chefs from all over the world will showcase their skills.

■The heated competition to determine the grand prize winners: "National Paella Championship" and "National Tapas Championship"
The main event is where the winners of each championship are decided by visitor votes. The results will be announced on the final day, June 7th (Sunday). Each restaurant has been experimenting and creating paella and tapas dishes tailored to the event, aiming for victory. The winning restaurant will be presented with an original "Paella Pan Trophy" made using a paella pan.
Hokkaido Namara Seafood Paella
Restaurant Name: El-Asador- Seafood paella is popular in Japan. At El-Asador, we are particular about using rice from Hokkaido to make our paella. We are also particular about using ingredients and broth from Hokkaido, which are key to the flavor.
Rich Lobster Paella
Restaurant Name: Spanish Restaurant Pablo <br />A long-established Spanish restaurant in Nakameguro, which has won awards in various competitions, presents a paella that they're offering at a loss! A magnificent paella made with lobster and cooked to perfection.
Hokkaido Ezo deer paella
Shop Name: Gonokami Meat Shop <br /> Cooked in Ezo deer broth and topped with grilled Ezo deer. We use every part of the Hokkaido-raised Ezo deer. The wild garlic, tomatoes, and shiitake mushrooms used are also from Ezo. Please enjoy this rustic paella full of the charm of Hokkaido.
Seafood Paella
Restaurant name: Spanish restaurant Ginza Vidro
Since its founding in 1977, Bidoro has maintained the same taste for its proud seafood paella. Grilled shiitake mushrooms with black pepper and cheese (drizzled with Spanish olive oil)
Shop name: OMOINOTAKE
We've added shiitake mushroom tapas to our menu, perfect as a snack with drinks. Large, fist-sized shiitake mushrooms from Nakashibetsu, Hokkaido, called "Omoi no Take," are grilled over charcoal. The menu features Hokkaido-sourced ingredients such as Hokkaido butter, Nakashibetsu Gouda cheese, a white sauce made with Hokkaido milk, and Habomai kelp soy sauce! They pair perfectly with draft beer and wine!
Patatas con Huevos Lotos
Restaurant Name: al Punto A popular Spanish dish featuring fluffy potatoes coated in a creamy egg. The savory aroma of freshly fried potatoes combined with the mellow richness of the egg creates a simple yet addictive flavor. Perfect as a snack with drinks or as a dish to share with friends.
Black ajillo with sweet shrimp from Fukui Prefecture
Restaurant Name: Japan Ajillo Association <br /> Enjoy the delicious flavor of sweet shrimp from Fukui Prefecture in Chiba Prefecture's famous black ajillo. This dish brings out the rich sweetness and umami unique to sweet shrimp with ajillo oil. ■The winning restaurant will be invited to a training program in Spain! "Valenciana Paella Japan Competition"
A domestic competition will be held featuring "Valenciana Paella," said to be the origin of paella, made with chicken and rabbit meat. The competition will take place on Friday, June 5th, starting at 12:00 PM. Paella pans will be lined up in a row, and the paella will be cooked over a wood fire, just like in Italy. All entries will use the same ingredients and equipment, and the judges will taste and score the entries on the spot. The winning restaurant will receive a trophy and a trip to Spain as a prize from the Japan Paella Association.
■Japanese chefs take on the world! World Paella Day Cup 2026 Japan Representative Qualifiers
The World Paella Day Cup, a celebration of World Paella Day on September 20th, will be held in Valencia, Valencia, Spain. Now in its seventh year in 2026, this competition will feature representatives from 10 countries selected from around the world competing by creating their own original paella dishes.
