■Background of the event <br />Photography has become very familiar in recent years due to the spread of digital cameras and smartphones. While it has become possible to easily record everyday moments, the field of "art photography" is still far away for many people. In addition, “instagrammable” photos with a strong impact that can be seen even on a small screen have become popular, and it is becoming more difficult to understand the original splendor of photos.

Therefore, we will hold an exhibition of the works of street photographers who were active in the mid-20th century, and provide an opportunity to think about "what is a photograph that touches the heartstrings?"

■West Europe and Asia, two great masters <br />A total of 36 photographs by Robert Doisneau and Van Ho will be exhibited at the Ota Kosan Collection Exhibition.

<Robert Doisneau>
A Paris-based photographer, he captured the everyday lives of ordinary people with humor and affection.

Awards received Kodak Award (1947), Niepce Award (1956), etc.
In 1984, he was awarded the Legion of Honor and the title of Chevalier.

<Fung Ho>
Based in Hong Kong, he expressed his affection for people and the reconstruction of Hong Kong. He spent a lot of time working in the darkroom and was good at sublimating his work to a level that was straight-forward and heart-wrenching.

Awards
Received "Life-time Achievement Award, the 2nd Global Chinese International Photography Award, China, 2015" by The Chinese Photographic Society (Guangzhou).

■ Where works are stored
M+ (Hong Kong), Hong Kong Museum of Culture (Hong Kong), National Library of France (Paris), San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (USA), Santa Barbara Museum of Art (USA), and many others

Masterpiece <br />Robert Doisneau: "A Kiss in front of the City Hall of Paris"
Photo taken by Doisneau for LIFE magazine.
In the space where there are men and women kissing, people live their daily lives without paying attention to it.
A powerful piece that impresses that Paris is usually dramatic.

Huang Ho: "Approaching Shadow"
A photo taken by Fan Ho when he was in his early twenties.
A masterpiece that skillfully expresses the finiteness and sadness of life by skillfully using shadows that quietly approach, the wall behind, the gaze of a woman, and her posture.
