·overview
Sato Rihomi is based in New York and is a member of the art collective GOLD WOOD ART WORKS, led by artist Yamaguchi Retsumu.
Sato's collages and paintings are sprinkled with vivid colors and motifs extracted from various sources, including the female body and images from ancient paintings, pornographic magazines, and social media. For her, her work is an action that explores her identity, which fluctuates daily as an immigrant from Japan and as a woman, and questions social stereotypes. Through an experimental process that combines different materials such as paint, photography, paper, and fabric with deformed motifs, she confronts discomfort and anger that lurk in the everyday, such as lookism, gender bias, racial prejudice, and excessive consumption images.
This exhibition features a video in which Sato describes his thoughts on same-sex marriage, as well as a series of works he created after seeing a fresco depicting an ancient Roman couple at the same time. While pondering the universal question of "why people desire other people" and the conflicts and social barriers that arise in making that desire come true, Sato portrays a variety of relationships with the self and others, such as people dealing with feelings of loneliness and people who come into contact with someone's skin.

・FOAM CONTEMPORARY
Combining "LIQUID," which evokes the image of flexible project content, with "SOLID," a space fully equipped as a traditional white cube, the intermediate form known as "FOAM" is an expressive space that reflects the Japanese art scene from multiple angles.
The first "O" in the logo is intentionally misshapen to evoke the image of a bubble. It represents the ever-changing contemporary art scene itself, while also expressing the image of an artist's free, flexible and infinite expression.
As an expressive space that explores and fosters the value and joy of art that transcends the life cycle of art, while staying in tune with the actuality of the times, we will introduce a variety of noteworthy artists regardless of their career history or age.
