This immersive digital art museum brings to life the works of world-renowned ukiyo-e artists such as Katsushika Hokusai, Utagawa Kuniyoshi, Utagawa Hiroshige, Kitagawa Utamaro, Toshusai Sharaku, and Utagawa Kunisada. It also features detailed exhibits and explanations of actual ukiyo-e prints from the Edo period.
The "Moving Ukiyo-e Museum GINZA" will open in Ginza, Tokyo in the spring of 2027.
"The Moving Ukiyo-e Museum GINZA" is the first permanent facility to open in Ginza, Tokyo, as the culmination of the "Moving Ukiyo-e Exhibition," an immersive art exhibition that has attracted a total of over 500,000 visitors in nine cities in Japan and overseas.
Since its initial run in Nagoya in the summer of 2023, the "Ukiyo-e in Motion" exhibition has toured a total of nine cities: Milan (Italy), Kagoshima, Tokyo, Taipei (Taiwan), Fukuoka, Kaohsiung (Taiwan), Osaka, and Paris (France), encompassing five cities in Japan and four cities overseas. In total, it has attracted over 500,000 visitors.
Furthermore, the "Moving Ukiyo-e Exhibition" received an Excellence Award in the Project Category of the "CJPF Awards 2025," organized by the Cool Japan Public-Private Partnership Platform (Secretariat: Cabinet Office Intellectual Property Strategy Promotion Office), and also won the Gold Award in the "Experiential & Immersive – Exhibition Experience" category of the international creative award "MUSE Creative Awards 2026," demonstrating its high cultural value and artistic merit both domestically and internationally.
It has attracted widespread attention on leisure and art-related booking and introduction websites, and has achieved the No. 1 ranking in the "Asoview!" Art Events and Art Festivals ranking ("Moving Ukiyo-e Exhibition TOKYO" as of February 20, 2025), the No. 1 ranking in the "Let's Enjoy Tokyo" Museum and Art Events ranking ("Moving Ukiyo-e Exhibition TOKYO" as of February 25, 2025), and the No. 1 ranking in the "Walkerplus" Kanto Events ranking ("Moving Ukiyo-e Exhibition TOKYO" as of February 20, 2025).

The concept of "The Moving Ukiyo-e Museum GINZA" is to create a new kind of digital art experience that can be enjoyed across generations and languages, using cutting-edge 3DCG animation and projection mapping to depict over 300 works by world-renowned ukiyo-e artists such as Katsushika Hokusai, Utagawa Kuniyoshi, Utagawa Hiroshige, Kitagawa Utamaro, Toshusai Sharaku, and Utagawa Kunisada. It is an immersive digital art museum where you can immerse yourself in the world of ukiyo-e in eight conceptual three-dimensional video spaces.
Based on masterpieces of Ukiyo-e prints by Katsushika Hokusai, including "The Great Wave off Kanagawa" and "Fine Wind, Clear Morning (commonly known as Red Fuji)" from his "Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji," this exhibition allows visitors to fully appreciate the beauty of Ukiyo-e through immersive, three-dimensional video, sound, and scent effects. Furthermore, the exhibition displays original Ukiyo-e prints from the Edo period as well as reproductions made from woodblocks carved after the Meiji era, and provides explanations in multiple languages, including Japanese, English, and Chinese, about the history of Ukiyo-e, Edo culture, and Ukiyo-e artists.
In addition, the museum features a shop offering original goods created in collaboration with long-established businesses, as well as a gallery exhibiting and selling actual ukiyo-e prints, allowing visitors to experience Edo culture with all their senses and take home a piece of it.
Photography and videography are permitted throughout the venue, allowing you to immerse yourself in the fantastical world of ukiyo-e prints and capture stunning images.
