【Ginza Ashiya Shoten】 “Ando Tadao: Challenge” architect Ando Tadao’s portfolio latest work “ANDO BOX V” presentation and exhibition from 6/8 (Tue)

At Ginza Yodoya Shoten (in Chuo-ku, Tokyo, GINZA SIX 6F), the exhibition (free of charge) of the portfolio latest work of architect Tadao Ando, “ANDO BOX V” will be held from June 8 to 20, 2019. It will be held at "GINZA ATRIUM" in Ginza Ashiya Bookstore.

The latest portfolio “ANDO BOX V” focuses on the project “Nakanoshima Project II [Geological Space]” designed by Mr. Tadao Ando with deep passion, and covers the length of 10 meters by Mr. Ando It is a reproduction of drawing with high-resolution printing technology.

Nakanoshima, Chuo Oshu, which flows through the center of Osaka. On the island that is flanked by rivers on both sides, facilities such as city halls, libraries, and public halls are lined with facilities that play a central role in the culture and administration of the region since the old days. "Geological space" is a concept that makes this whole island a major cultural zone.

"The existing historical landscape, the atmosphere of the lush green city park remains as it is, and the island itself is reborn as a cultural complex-a concept that has not been asked by anyone, it was an endless proposition.

Tadao Ando

Born in Osaka in 1941. He studied architecture by himself, and in 1969 he founded Ando Tadao Research Institute. His masterpieces include the Church of the Light, the Pulitzer Museum of Art, and the Naoshima Underground Museum. 1979 "Sumiyoshi Nagaya" Japanese Architectural Institute Award, Japan Art Academy Award in 1993, Plitsker Prize in 1995, 2005 International Association of Architects (UIA) Gold Medal, 2010 John F. Kennedy Center Art Gold Award, Goto Shinpei Awards, the Medal of Culture, the 2013 French Order of Arts and Culture (Commandor), the medal of the Italian Star of Grande Ufficha in 2015, and the award winner Isamu Noguchi 2016. One-man exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art, New York in 1991, and at the Pompidou Center in Paris in 1993 and 2018. Visiting professor at Yale, Columbia, Harvard University. Professor of the University of Tokyo since 1997, currently an honorary professor.
