The Panasonic Shiodome Museum of Art is holding the "Beautiful Architecture Exhibition of Salinen and Finland" from Saturday, July 3, 2021 to Monday, September 20, 2021. We would like to inform you about the press preview held on July 2nd.
"Design is a big framework. Chairs come from the room, rooms come from the house, the house comes from the surrounding environment, and the environment comes from the city planning."
Finland is a Scandinavian country known for its beautiful forests and lakes. The national character and sophisticated design products that value harmony with nature are very popular all over the world.
Finnish modernism, which has many fans in Japan, was founded by architect and urban planner Eliel Saarinen . Saarinen collaborated and interacted with various architectures and artists in a quiet nature, developing new modernist designs while seeking ethnic roots.
This exhibition focuses on the Finnish era before Saarinen moved to the United States in 1923, and introduces his creative activities through a variety of work materials.
Architectures born in a beautiful forest country
Saarinen is said to be the first person to gain international fame in Finland.
He has always brought out innovative designs, placing his identity in the nature and climate of his home country.
At the venue, not only his drawings and architectural photographs, but also furniture, ceramics, textiles and other Scandinavian lifestyle designs will be introduced.
Through the multi-faceted exhibition, you can follow his creative process from an early style that sought ethnic roots to modernism, which seeks to present a new Finnish character.
"Iris no Ma" where you can enjoy traditional Finnish handicrafts
The exhibition about the 1990 Paris World's Fair, where Saarinen's architecture drew a lot of attention, can be said to be the white eye of this exhibition.
The Geselius Lindgren Saarinen Architects, formed by students at the Helsinki University of Technology, was selected first in the 1989 design competition and has made its name known to the world.
Their working the Paris Exposition Finland Museum has fascinated people in appearance, such as the church of "Ishidoru", but had been bathed in the event of interest, between the Iris, which rely on the spot to traditional handicrafts at the same time.
This is to invite Finnish painter Axeli Garen-Carrera and others to design a room with their work to attract international attention to Finnish handicrafts. In this corner, handicrafts rooted in daily life such as the famous Eris chair made by Garen-Carrera, traditional textiles, ceramics and frescoes are introduced.
Vitresk House that embodies "living in nature"
"Vitresk was all that" house "meaned to us," Saarinen said.
Vitresk was designed on a beautiful lakeside west of Helsinki as a design office for Saarinen and others and a place for communal living.
Vitresk is an architecture that embodies the ideal of "living in nature", and is a comprehensive work of art that combines architecture and living design.
In this exhibition, we are particularly focusing on this Vitresk-related exhibition, and at the venue, the furniture designed by Saarinen used in the main room and bedroom, and the beautiful dining room are reproduced in the exhibition hall, leaving the charm of it. I'm telling you.
