[What is MASIA]

In Catalan, it means "farm house in the countryside". Family owned for generations, the house has evolved into a restaurant serving food. Enjoy traditional home-cooked meals with modern techniques. A unique restaurant created by Chef Mateu Villaret with a new concept and style.

[Identity of MASIA]

Masia offers authentic Spanish flavors, especially those with deep Catalan roots. While strongly adhering to ingredients from Catalonia and Spain, we also use high-quality ingredients that are in season in Japan. "Catalan roots", "Spanish soul" and "Japanese ingredients" are the three philosophies of Chef Mateu Villaretto.

[MASIA menu concept]

"mar y montana" This word means "sea and mountains" in Catalan. Catalonia is surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea to the east and the Pyrenees Mountains to the north, and the local cuisine of Catalonia is greatly influenced by the sea and the mountains. At MASIA, "sea and mountains" is the basis of the menu, and the concept of gastronomy is inspired by the mountains and coasts of Catalonia.

【concept】

Macia emphasizes seasonality based on the concept of “Mar y Montana” (sea and mountains). Catalan cuisine is strongly influenced by both the Mediterranean Sea to the south and the Pyrenees Mountains to the north.

“Mar y Montana” (sea and mountains) is the core word of Macia's menu, which is inspired by the Catalan wilderness. Combining fresh seafood and meat on a single plate is a culinary tradition passed down through generations.

【Drink menu】

The drinks as well as the food concept are all Spanish focused. All wines are from Spain. Selected by sommelier Kensuke Hasegawa, who has deep knowledge and extensive experience in top restaurants.

We cover a wide range of products, from classic styles that preserve traditional manufacturing methods to modern and natural products by young producers. Enjoy a unique wine pairing with Chef Mateu Villaret's cuisine.

Not only wines, but also sherry, vermouth, beer and low alcohol are spotlighted and carefully selected from Spain with excellent quality.

profile
Born in 1985 in Calella, a suburb of Barcelona. Grown in the rich nature of Catalonia, surrounded by the sea and mountains. Ever since I was a child, I have been very interested in cooking at home. Depending on the day, my father from Catalonia, my mother from Madrid, and my grandmother from Andalusia are in charge of cooking, and I come into contact with the flavors of various parts of Spain. It was natural for me to want to share the charm of Spain's rich regional cuisine with others, and to live my life as a chef.

He started working at a famous restaurant in Spain, then traveled to Italy, Holland and Singapore. After that, he got a chance to work at Hajime (Michelin Guide 3-star) in Osaka, and was strongly influenced by Chef Yoneda. His success in Hajime caught my eye, and he became a chef at a Catalan restaurant called maspi.

Catalan cuisine based on a unique concept quickly became known not only in Osaka, but throughout the country, leading to the opening of MASIA in Ginza, Tokyo in 2022.
