A Noh festival is coming to Ginza this summer! TOKYO GINZA “Summer Festival Noh Theater”

A special 5-day program to enjoy and discover the traditional Japanese culture of Noh! August 11th (Monday, national holiday) – August 15th (Friday)

The theme of the Kanze Noh Theater this summer is "Summer Festival."
For five days from August 11th (Monday, national holiday) to the 15th (Friday), the Noh festival will come to the town of Ginza.

At the venue, lanterns, reed mats, wind chimes, and morning glories create a summer atmosphere, and if you go further, you will see a life-sized banner of the ghost of Tomomori from "Funabenkei." This is the most photogenic spot of the event.
There will be an exhibition of masks and costumes from the Kanze School's collection, as well as over 50 Noh masks for you to try out. If you find a mask you like, you can even have a Noh performer try it on for you.

Workshops will be held on stage twice a day, at 2:25 pm and 6 pm, for 45 minutes each.
You will experience the movements and chanting, try on the costume of Funa-Benkei, and even see a performance of the Shimai dance in the costume and mask.
The movie show that can be enjoyed on the big screen includes a "Backstage Tour of the Kanze Noh Theatre" navigated by Kanze Saburota, and a spectacular movie using cutting-edge CG, "The Three Great Noh Theatre Pieces: God, Demon and Beauty," which will be screened twice a day.
The souvenir shop will also be selling Noh-style Snoopy and merchandise featuring patterns handed down from the Kanze school, as well as original cookies.

Photography is permitted at the venue, except during the movie show.
If you upload a photo to social media on the spot, you will be entered into a drawing to win a prize. (No losing tickets.)

The workshops will be accompanied by an English interpreter, the videos will have English subtitles, and a guide-interpreter will escort foreign guests around the venue.
Please come and enjoy the fun summer at the Noh Theatre.
