A full-fledged exhibition where you can enjoy the world view of Makoto Shinkai's latest movie "Suzume no Tojime", Makoto Shinkai's "Suzume no Tojime" exhibition will be held from April 19th to May 8th, 2023 at Matsuya Ginza. It is held at the event square on the 8th floor.
I participated in the private viewing and opening event held prior to the event, so I will report on the state of the venue.
*Please note that this contains spoilers for the movie "Suzume no Tojiri".

"What is your name? Makoto Shinkai's latest movie "Suzume no Tojimemari", which gained popularity with "Weathering with You", is set in the ruins of various parts of Japan. This is a road movie that closes the “door” that causes disaster while being led by the mysterious white cat Daijin. Recorded a big hit from the theater release in November 2022. Distribution in 199 countries and regions has been decided, and the box office revenue in China has exceeded that of Japan, attracting attention from all over the world.
In this exhibition, we will display valuable production materials such as drawings, storyboards, and art backgrounds in the form of following the story of "Suzume no Toshimari". Along with the special exhibition that can only be seen here, you can follow the footsteps of the sparrows' journey and enjoy the world of director Shinkai's "collection and masterpiece".
When entering the venue, there is a production that passes through the "door" that plays an important role in "Suzume no Tojirimari", which will tickle the fan's heart.
I want to enter the "door" right away, but in front of the "door" is a part of the original plan of "Suzume no Toshimari" written around April 2020, along with the greetings of this exhibition and the introduction of Director Shinkai. was also exhibited.
The original plan was distributed at the theater in the form of "Makoto Shinkai" as a limited number of visitors' benefits, but if you haven't seen it, please don't miss it. You can understand the concept of the work and what kind of thoughts "Suzume no Toshimari" was made.
After entering the “door”, there was a special area where the theme song “Suzume feat. With the power of beautiful images and singing voice, you will be drawn into the world of "Suzume no Tojimemari" at once.
In the exhibition area, not only are materials such as drawings, storyboards, character designs, graphics, etc. displayed along with the story, but there are also videos of impressive scenes in the works, and large lines are introduced. …. About half a year has passed since the movie was released, and the memories and impressions that had begun to fade have revived one after another.
Of course, you can enjoy the beautiful and detailed art background that builds the world view called "Makoto Shinkai World" in printed materials, but I feel that it is best to see it in the video, so I am very happy that there is a video exhibition. was the design.
There weren't many literary exhibits, but there were many discoveries that deepened my understanding of the work, such as noticing the direction's intentions that I hadn't noticed when watching the movie, when I read the brief explanations of the actions written in the storyboards.
You can also check the contents of Twitter where Daijin's sighting information was posted in various places, which can only be seen for a moment in the work.
In addition, items that appeared in the story, such as the “keystone” that Suzume pulled out, and the mandarin orange that Chika, the daughter of a mandarin orange farmer, dropped, are placed according to the contents of the exhibition, and fans will be excited. No doubt. (The recreated "Keystone" has a strong presence when you actually see it.)
Although the shooting was NG, the production flow of "Suzume no Tojimemari", the adjustment of the colors of the characters and art, and the processing to be put in the shooting process such as the lighting, etc. It was very interesting because there was a careful explanation of various elements that make up the charm of the work, such as the process and the use of 3DCG.
An eruption map showing flames rising up like "earthworms" that cause earthquakes, and an old map that traces the transition of "keystones" that suppress "earthworms". The exhibition of. All of them are said to have been drawn with brush and ink by the art staff.
I'm a light fan of "Suzume no Tojimemari", having only seen it twice, but I felt that the so-called highlight scenes were mostly featured in this exhibition. The movie is introduced evenly from the beginning to the end, so by the time you finish watching the exhibition, you should be able to get the satisfaction of watching the full story.
What surprised me was that I was able to see the climax of the battle with "Earthworm" in the Tokoyo world and the ending of the story as it was in the main video.
It's not a glimpse, but it's flowing quite plentifully. I was so overwhelmed by the visuals, music, and the power of the cast's performances that I forgot that I was actually interviewing them. You can only watch it once in a movie theater, and of course, at this time when DVD sales and videos are not yet available, it's nice to be able to watch it as many times as you want.
I think that many people who visit this exhibition have already seen the movie, but if you have not seen the movie or are inviting someone, please be careful.
In addition, a photo spot that reproduced the moving scene of Suzume's chair (Sota) was set up in the venue with a fantastic background. Perfect for taking commemorative photos.
At the opening event held on the same day as the preview, Hara Haranohana, who acted as a cast for Suzume, appeared.
“There are goods that can only be purchased here, and you can see many valuable materials such as original drawings and storyboards. I hope you will enjoy it and love this work,” he sent a message to the visitors.
When asked about the original goods sold at the exhibition, he said, "I fell in love with the Daijin hair band at first sight. It's cute…anyone can become Daijin right away. I wear a hair band when I wash my face every day. , I definitely want it,” commented with a smile while holding the goods.
Here is the "Daijin hair band" that Mr. Hara highly recommended. The products sold at the venue are introduced on the official website of the exhibition , so please check there.
Among the goods with many cute designs, the "Serizawa Shirt", which reproduces the rose-patterned shirt worn by Sota's friend Serizawa, stands out.
Along with the "Sota shirt", Mr. Hara praised the product, saying, "I think there are a lot of people who want to wear his favorite shirt. You understand the demand." You can wear it, you can decorate it, and if you're a fan, don't miss it.
